APARTEMENT BUILDING IN ALMERE
In the neighbourhood Nobelhorst a second apartment building of SVP was realised. For the design two important principles were defined: offering dwellings against low rents (considerably lower than the maximum social rent) and connecting to the theme of this field, ‘the orchard’. Also, of course we wanted to establish a relationship with the other buildings at the junction. The U-shaped building encloses a collective garden which is directed towards the sun and opens up towards the public space. On the most prominent location on the intersection on the ground floor a collective working space was created for the inhabitants.
An important challenge was to create a worthy building fitting in the context of Nobelhorst with limited means. The rugged appearance of the building refers to the enterprising character of Nobelhorst in general and in particular this building. The combination of two types of brickwork and the creation of relief makes the facades interesting and it evokes a sense of workmanship.
The financial feasibility was a complex task. Through intensive cooperation with the clients Dura Vermeer and Ymere, but also the municipality of Almere the foundations for the plan were laid in three days, including building and exploitation cost calculations. We have successfully used this way of working several times before.
