Industrial appearance appropriate to the track history
The location is located along the railway and this railway zone has traditionally been a place where many industrial activities have taken place. For the architectural elaboration we have sought contact with the local residents with this rich past and have opted for an industrial appearance of the buildings. Typical are the sturdy masonry blocks with beautiful masonry details and large glass surfaces. The green natural environment connects the blocks and forms a nice counterweight to the tough architecture.
SVP’s urban housing program has translated the substantial housing program into an ensemble of several blocks that define various interspaces. There will be parked at ground level and the cars are to a large extent hidden from view by a wooden deck. In order to solve all differences in height in a natural way, a sloping terrain is created. Various paths provide informal short-circuit routes.
The eye-catcher is the thirteen-storey tower. The white accent forms a beautiful landmark from the inner city. Along the track there are two sturdy robust blocks next to the tower with sound-proofed greenhouses that give the façade an open character. The light space in the U-shaped block forms an urban room where neighbours can meet.
