Mobility as an opportunity

But Utrecht is not the only city working on this theme. In cities such as Barcelona, London, etc., spurred on by COVID-19, a veritable guerrilla war is underway in which cars are being forced to make way for greenery and more living space. SVP believes that this can be achieved, for example, by approaching mobility differently and looking for new, healthy, and better ways of getting around.

Designing with changing mobility in mind is one of SVP's specialties. Smart strategies, car-free residential environments and cities, neighborhood and mobility hubs, you name it, we are working on it in our projects. Curious about what else we have done with this theme? Keep an eye on us!
There is a great demand for housing and densification of existing cities. This is only possible if we also deal with mobility in cities differently; space must be made in the city, both literally and figuratively. Utrecht, for example, wants to accommodate 100,000 new residents over the next 20 years. This goes hand in hand with the ambition to prevent car traffic from increasing. In order to ensure a healthy, green, and safe living environment in the future, the aim is to reduce residents' dependence on cars. One of the solutions to achieve this is to design a walkable city. The aim is to create a mixed city with amenities within walking distance, combined with an intelligent mobility system based on the use of shared cars, shared bicycles, and switching to different forms of public transport.
